If the death was expected call the General Practitioner (GP) and if death occurred in a Care or Nursing Home the next of kin will also need to be advised. The GP will provide a Medical Certificate showing the cause of death, they will also provide a formal notice advising they’ve signed the medical certificate and advising how to register the death.
If the deceased is to be cremated the Medical Certificate must be signed by two different doctors.
It is the responsibility of the next of kin to contact their preferred Funeral Director to arrange for the removal of the deceased to the Chapel of Rest.
If the deceased did not have a GP or you are unaware of their details an ambulance should be called instead.
The death must be registered within 5 days.
